Urban Ag Fest and Farm To Every Fork

Join us each year as we celebrate urban agriculture and our partners who bring good, clean, and fair food to all in Sacramento.  For five years we hosted an outdoor urban dining experience to showcase locally grown and seasonal foods prepared by some of Sacramento’s finest chefs, while raising funds and building support for allies including the Sacramento Hunger Coalition, Soil Born Farms, and the School Garden Coalition.

In 2014, we joined the Sacramento Homeless Organizing Committee to co-host Farm to Every Fork, where ticket purchasers and sponsored guests kicked off Farm to Fork Week by sharing a sumptuous meal, their stories, and support for ending hunger in our region. These urban agriculture events are our primary annual fundraiser, each benefitting an organization or organizations that share the Slow Food mission of good, clean, and fair food for all.

Stop in at the shops of urban purveyors and preservers of Sacramento’s finest foods and learn their stories. All this and more at our annual fall Edible Bike Tour.

Fundraising Dinners

While our chapter’s fundraising is primarily for organizations allied with our mission, we also provide a couple of opportunities to support our chapter. We raise the funds to allow our all-volunteer group to support the work of our School Garden Coalition, to pay for insurance, newsletter and Web site support, and so on. We raise these funds by offering in-home dinners featuring a local chef.

Harvest Dinner

Each year Slow Food aficionados come together to enjoy the fall harvest at Mulvaney’s B & L and celebrate the accomplishments of the newest awardees of our Snail of Approval.  This family style dinner by Sacramento leading chef and Slow Food supporter Patrick Mulvaney never disappoints. Be prepared to dine with chefs, producers and supporters of the Slow Food mission – good, clean and fair food for all.

Terra Madre Day – Annual Membership Meeting

picnicSince 2009, each year on December 10 - Slow Food’s anniversary - food communities and Slow Food chapters around the world celebrate eating locally and sustainable local foods in more than a 1,000 events. Collective meals, community festivals, protests, workshops for children, excursions to producers and much more, promote local food traditions and demonstrate the Slow Food philosophy of good, clean and fair food for all to communities, media and decision makers.

Our Sacramento chapter celebrates with a potluck dinner where attendees are invited to bring dishes that are GMO-free, and showcase Ark of Taste and other Slow Food ingredients. This event also serves as our annual membership meeting and election of officers. It is free and open to all Slow Food members.

Restaurant Mixers

We further support restaurants that earn our Snail of Approval by hosting mixers from time to time for our members and supporters. It’s your chance to try food prepared with the Slow Food mission in mind, learn about the people who go the extra mile to earn a Snail, and mingle with your fellow Slow Food supporters.
